Make it a regular morning activity.

  1. Check all exterior lights are working. The perfect to do this is when the car is parked at night. Turn the ignition and lights on and check their reflection.
  2. Check that glass surfaces (including the mirrors) are clean and free from chips, cracks and scratches.
  3. Check that the windscreen wipers and washers operate efficiently.
  4. Check the wiper rubbers are secure and in good condition.
  5. Make sure the horn works.
  6. Test the handbrake to ensure it ‘holds’ the car on steep hills.
  7. Check the condition of the seat belts.
  8. Check the Oil level.
  9. Check the brake fluid level.
  10. Check the radiator coolant level.
  11. Check the wheels.
  12. Check your power steering fluid, if you have.
  13. Check the transmission fluid, to observe if its low or smelling burnt.
  14. Check your battery terminals.
  15. Check tyre pressures and tyre condition, including tread depth.
